Love Suppressed (#66)

A sudden brush with a love lost,
My heart aches- at what cost?
I push it away for friendship retired,
With mixed feelings, it is re-fired!
I must catch my thoughts, old hopes, and dreams,
Before they burn me asunder, it seems,
At a call for aid, I rushed to her side,
I looked at my heart, and to it, I lied,
She needed my friendship, not my affection,
Thus, I am forced to hide emotion from detection,
For she loves an angel now among the clouds,
My love must be given its rose stained shrouds,
What we were is not what we are,
Now only friends with an aching scar.
