Poem #4

Afternoon Rain

It just rained there on the quiet road,
Smells of wet grass after it’s been mowed,
The feel of cooled asphalt under my toes,
Garden’s red tulips like damp soldiers in rows,
Weighted down dandelions wanting to sway,
Wet leaves stick to the deck where ever they may,
Gloomy clouds bend down to hug the world,
The driveway puddle is rippled and swirled,
The gentle after-storm breeze softly sings,
The blackbirds return to fluff their wings,
The grate nearby roars like the raging river,
The sun peaks through the clouds but only a sliver,
These are the days that calm the conflicted soul,
These are the days we need to make us whole,
