River

I returned to the river,
To reap the calm it can deliver,
To feel the earth beneath my feet,
Instead of the gray city concrete,
To stand amidst the river’s flow,
And feel the world around me slow,
To breathe in the cool fresh air,
No smog and no horns that blare,
To listen to the river’s steady roar,
A sound that touches my inner core,
To hear the canopy leaves rustle,
And forget the hustle and bustle,
To reap the calm it can deliver,
I returned to the river,
