Poem #1661

Staying Distant

I’m sorry to say I can be a stubborn ass,
I know I should just let certain things pass,
It can be hard to overcome historical ill,
People can change despite how I sometimes feel,
Burnt bridges can be rebuilt if both sides try,
But finding a reason to do so can be hard to identify,
Is it worth all the would-be work and trouble?
Or is it best to leave it buried under ash and rubble?
My judgment is clouded by the experiences of the past,
And the gulf between us have become cold and vast,
Do I hold back due to my ego and wounded pride?
Or because I fear further hurt deep inside?
