Sorting It Out

To my honest astonishment, I finished fleshing out my antagonist yesterday. It could easily be described as a huge brain dump. By fleshing him out, I’ve been able to organize my mind mapping document a great deal more. I’ve gone back and forth on whether to outline this story. I don’t think I will, at least not in the traditional sense. This mind mapping will likely serve as the outline in a very loose sort of way.

The next thing to flesh out is setting and get a few more details on the secondary characters that I know about. I think after that, I’ll have to think through the possible events in the story. Right now, my brain is still mush so I’m not sure how fast I’ll get there. But I’m farther along than I thought! I’ll be glad when I can put pen to paper on this one. I don’t want to think about how long it’ll take me to write this one.

On a side note, I saw that ChicSparrow finally released their Carroll collection. That leather is a beautiful turquoise color! I would absolutely adore a traveler’s notebook in that color but unfortunately, they aren’t making composition notebook sizes anymore. And considering that I have about 4 composition notebooks that I haven’t even started using yet, it doesn’t make sense to switch to a different notebook size just to be able to use a traveler’s notebook cover.

I’m having second thoughts about my poetry. Part of me says it’s personal but part of me says I should be sharing it. Then again, what I’m writing right now is personal and I’m still sharing it publicly. I know I can’t make money off my poetry, not really. But maybe I should reconsider posting them here on my site for others to read. That would take a lot of time to post all that poetry though. That’s the sort of thing that would take away from my actual writing time. Dunno. I’ll have to give it some more thought.

It’s Looney

I don’t like talking about this kind of stuff but today’s headline that the modern version of Looney Tunes is getting rid of Elmer Fudd’s and Yosemite Sam’s guns is just plain crazy. It’s comedy! It doesn’t promote gun violence in kids. I get we have more gun violence in today’s society, but that’s because the news outlets eat it up. The more it’s shown, the more folks who might be inclined to do it get the idea that they can do it.

These are classic characters with a rich history. It’s unfathomable that Warner Brothers wants to change them like that. Their guns were the pivotal piece to their characters. What’s next? Because there’s so much violence in the world, they’ll stop the Hulk from going mean and green? No more Hulk smash? I wouldn’t be surprised.

I swear to goodness we’ve gotten so sensitive and soft. What happened to us? In our effort to protect our children, did we protect them too much from the world that they can’t handle it without safe spaces and bubble wrap? The world can no longer abide by folks having different opinions. I truly worry about the world and what the next 20 years will bring.

Attacking the To-Do

It took longer than I expected but I finished fleshing out my main character during this morning’s writing session. There are more details than I think I’ll ever end up using but some of it spurred on some future ideas that could happen to the character. I feel really good about how he turned out.

The next thing to flesh out is my antagonist. I don’t think I’ll need to get into the same amount of detail I did with the main character but who knows what will happen. I’d like to get him done this weekend if possible, but it might take longer. Mostly, it’s because today’s to-do list is pretty full.

My car has been needing maintenance for over a month now, so I’m getting that taken care of. We need to do our weekly grocery trip, get cat food and swing by Best Buy to replace some charger cords. I also need to do the dishes before cooking dinner tonight.

My wife’s hand is doing better. I think they plan to remove the stitches next week. She can’t ball her fist yet but she’s able to curl it some. Getting there!

Paid off my laptop and made an extra payment on my wife’s car. It feels good to mark one thing off our debt list and to start attacking another. I’m still concerned about the upcoming layoffs but hopefully that won’t impact me. Time will tell.

I guess I better wrap this up. My pen is fading fast. I’ve apparently used all the ink up without knowing it! And of course, I didn’t bring a spare. So much for getting that antagonist work done. Ha! Rest in peace little pen.
