Music: Emilie Autumn – “Let The Record Show”
Location: Home Office
Earlier this week I had gone to lunch at Lenox Mall and got a little people watching in as I ate my lunch. The sheer volume of food being consumed was crazy. Just down the table from me, I watched this guy eat a massive burger that was dripping with grease. He then went on to mop up that grease with a handful of fries that he promptly stuffed into his mouth. Not that it put a dent in his mound of fries, which appeared to be taller than his burger. He was drinking some kind of soft drink, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had been a milkshake. I’m sure it was delicious, given how he enjoyed the thing but man, that made me take pause. When I looked around, the meals most people were eating were just as greasy and huge. I’m rather large myself, but it’s easy to see that the world around me is getter larger. That’s when I wrote this:
Fatter We Become
Why is it so easy to overeat?
It’s almost as if we need a cheat sheet!
Calories come at us like mad,
The average person’s intake is just sad,
They’re well above what we should eat,
Eating rightsized portions seems a feat,
We’re a culture of eating meals on the go,
We’ve forgotten how to eat right and consume slow,
How did we as a nation get to this state?
Sadly, it worsens at a steady rate,
What is the solution to this obesity we now face?
It’s a matter of life and death for the human race,
Today’s been the opposite of yesterday. It hasn’t been relaxing mind you, but the pace has been much slower. It helps too that I got to work from home today and could blast my music when not on conference calls. We had our first experience with Safelite today. My wife’s windshield had to be replaced, and our insurance company uses Safelite to do the work. It’s pretty cool that they were able to come to our house and do it right there in the driveway. The guy was nice, and the windshield looks as good as new. The commercials always made it seem like the replacement happened in 30 minutes or less, but this one took about an hour or so to do. Perceptions are funny that way.
It sounds like dinner will just be my wife and me as my son’s band practice is supposed to go late. They’ve got their show this weekend, and they’re practicing extra-long to make sure they’ve got their show down pat. I’m thinking I’ll spend the rest of the night working on The Collector. I’m not sure that there’s anything else I can do to it at this point, but I want to give it another glance. I’ve already edited it to death and shopped it around to all the paying markets, but no one took the bite. Part of me hates just posting it on my website for free since it’s novelette length, but I might end up doing that anyway. If it was any longer, I’d have to self-publish it. We’ll see.
