Why has politics become so pervasive in daily life? Aren’t people sick of it yet? I know I am. I can’t do anything or go anywhere these days without hearing about it or seeing something about it. Heck, even this entry is about it. Bleh.
It seems as though there’s no common ground anymore. Conservatives go further right. Liberals go further left. The parties have moved likewise, forcing the folks in the center to go independent or pick an arbitrary side. It shouldn’t be like that. We’re all different. We have different opinions, beliefs, and values. We should be able to love who we want, believe what we want and vote how we want but still be kind to each other.
Frankly, it’s sickening to watch it unfold as it has.
The left is no longer capable of having open and meaningful talks with folks who might believe anything different than what they believe. They have become tyrants, authoritarian and violent in defense of their ideologies. They shut down and censor the free speech of others who disagree with them and lob words like racist, homophobe, and Nazi as if they were moral grenades of judgment. When did screaming and launching ad hominem attacks replace civil discourse?
The right sees conspiracies around every corner and rails against a deep state that doesn’t exist. They turn a blind eye to hatred and division, even promote it when it fits their agenda to fire up their base. They have embraced the idea that it’s easier to unite people against an enemy than it is to bring them together for the common good. Despite being religious, they ignore actions and behaviors that go against the very things they believe. Things like truth, compassion and common courtesy have been replaced by a hunger for power and greed. They only want to win; costs be damned.
I can’t be the only one out there looking at both sides saying WTF! The world has lost its freaking mind.
